April R. Barrachina, Show Groom/Barn Manager

April graduated, magna cum laude, from Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI, in May 2006, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Equine Business Management. As a Golden Quill Honor Society member, upon graduation, she was presented with the University Honors Scholar Award.

April’s background was primarily showing in Hunt Seat Equitation with some combined training since 1996, receiving numerous year-end awards. She competed in IHSA Open Equitation during college, holding the position of Zone 1 Region 1 Official Point Secretary. She worked for 4 summers as a Counselor / Riding Instructor (3 years), and Assistant Director / Riding Instructor (1 year) for the Bonnie Castle Summer Riding Program at Stoneleigh Burnham School, Greenfield, MA. She has held a Massachusetts Horse Rider Instructor’s License since June 2005.

April started as Kim’s Show Groom at Plain Dealing Farm in September 2006. She accompanied Kim on her journey to open her own business in August 2007. In addition to being Kim’s show groom, April’s current duties include the full responsibility for therapeutic care, conditioning, exercising, and maintenance of all horses, as well as barn management, including general office & administrative duties.

In August 2008, April began training Poseidon, a Dutch Warmblood Gelding, owned by Sheri Silvia and Paragon Equestrian Centre. She took him to his first eventing competition at Five Points Horse Trials in September 2008. April and Poseidon won the Beginner Novice Division, finishing on their Dressage Score of 34. Poseidon moved up to the Novice level where he finished in 3rd place at the Maryland Horse trials at Loch Moy in October 2008.

Jodi Hemry, Bookkeeper/Winter Coordinator

Jodi has trained with Kim since 2003. She competes at area horse trials on thoroughbreds owned by Ralph Marrinson and Marrinson Stables: Harbor Nights showing at the Training level, Charles Harbor showing at the Preliminary level, and In Style showing at the Preliminary level.

Gabby Dickerson, Working Student

Congratulations Gabby and Folie!!! for competing in your first long format event in Lexington, Kentucky,winning the Training division, finishing on your dressage score of 29.2 ahead of 31 competitors. (10/09)

Gabby began riding at age 6 and has been training with Kim since October 2007. She is a member of the Mountain Skyline Pony Club: Mountain Skyline Pony Club riding at the C2 level. Since October 2008, she has been competing at the Training level, placing 2nd on Folie a Deux at the Virginia Horse Trials in October 2008. Gabby and Folie finished 1st, on their 27 dressage score, in the Junior Training Division at Paradise Farm Horse Trials, Aiken, SC, February 2009.

Gabby has set her immediate goal of making the young rider team and her future goal of competing at the Olympics. Gabby and her horse, Folie a Deux, have consistently placed in the top four while training under Kim.

Soon, Gabby will also be competing on her new horse, Oliver, a 5 year old 16.0 hand thoroughbred cross.

Kelsey Hoiness, Working Student

Kelsey has been riding since the age of 5 and first met Kim at a clinic in March of 2007. She is a C2 level member of Yadkin Valley Hounds Pony Club and currently competes her horses at the Training level. Kelsey has purchased two new horses, a 4 year old and 6 year old. She has started showing Quite The Gentleman (Jesse) at the Novice level.

Kelsey has goals of competing at Rolex and for the US Eventing team at the Olympics.

Paradise Farm Horse Trials, Aiken, SC, February 2009, proved to be a great beginning for Kelsey and her new mount, Quite The Gentleman. At his first recognized show they finished on their 29.5 dressage score, winning their Open Novice Division. In May 2009 competing at the Training level, they fnished on their dressage score of 30 in 2nd place at MCMTA Horse Trials, Maryland. Their accomplishments now include taking the BLUE RIBBON at Rubicon Horse Trials in Virginia, competing at the Training level this past June 2009.
